S'mores are a simple and tasty treat you can make on the trail or in your backyard. Though they require only a few simple ingredients — graham crackers, chocolate, and marshmallows — they can be tricky to pull off without burning or undercooking.

The first rule in making the perfect s'more is to pay attention. The number one mistake of many new s'mores-makers is just sticking the mallow near the fire and hoping for the best. Our pro tip? Keep an eye on the mallow at the end of your stick or cooking skewer, and keep turning the mallow until it has the perfect doneness you desire. Don't get it too close or you'll be walking away with a burnt and black marshmallow!

Make the ingredients your own. Choose your favorite brand of graham crackers, chocolate, and marshmallows. It may seem obvious, but choosing a preferred flavor of chocolate or grabbing a box of cinnamon grahams to spice things up can make all the difference.

Here's some advice from the Sandlot legend himself, Hamilton "the Ham" Porter: "First you take the graham. You stick the chocolate on the graham. Then you roast the mallow. When the mallow is flaming, you stick it on the chocolate. Then you cover it with the other end. Then you stuff."

So what are you waiting for?

Go out on the trail or in your backyard and gather round the fire! Take your time, pay attention, and you will have the perfect s'mores in no time!
